چکیده

Varicose veins are a common disorder and occur in about 40% of men and 32% of women. However the prevalence of the varicose veins has variability according to the age, gender, duration of reflux, and localization (superficial and/or deep veins). According to the Bonn Vein Study according to the duration of reflux (>500 ms) prevalence of the varicose veins in all veins was 35.3% (superficial veins: 21.0%, deep veins: 20.0%). The effect of venous insufficiency on patients’ quality of life is comparable with other common chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. (1, 2)

Superficial vein ablation for the treatment of primary chronic venous ulcers.

OBJECTIVE This retrospective study was undertaken to review our experience with ablation of superficial veins with significant reflux, using VNUS ClosureFAST RF (radiofrequency) or laser 980 nm, in patients with primary chronic venous ulcers, and also determine its effects in ulcer healing and ulcer recurrence. METHOD Included were 25 limbs (18 patients with chronic primary venous ulcers (cli...

Endovenous radiofrequency ablation of superficial and perforator veins.

Radiofrequency ablation of superficial and perforator veins for venous insufficiency has emerged as a leading alternative to traditional vein stripping operations. This percutaneous technique can be performed in less than an hour using local anesthetic or sedation. The VNUS Closure catheters (VNUS Medical Technologies, San Jose, California) work by resistive heating in the vein wall that is con...

The impact of ablation of incompetent superficial and perforator veins on ulcer healing rates.

OBJECTIVE We assessed the impact of endovenous ablation of incompetent superficial (great saphenous [GSV] and small saphenous [SSV]) and perforator (posterior tibial [PTPV]) veins on the healing rate of venous ulcers in patients who had failed conventional compression therapy. METHODS Patients with CEAP 6 ulcers were treated with weekly compression in a dedicated wound care center. Ulcer size...

Targeted endovenous treatment of Giacomini vein insufficiency-associated varicose disease: considering the reflux patterns.

PURPOSE We aimed to assess the technical feasibility of targeted endovenous treatment of Giacomini vein insufficiency (GVI)-associated varicose disease and report our early results. METHODS We retrospectively screened 335 patients with varicose disease who underwent endovenous laser ablation from September 2011 to January 2013, and determined 17 patients who underwent Giacomini vein ablation....

Prevention or Reversal of Deep Venous Insufficiency and Treatment: Why Are Spider Veins of the Legs a Serious and A Dangerous Medical Condition?

Spider veins (also known as spider hemangiomas) unlike varicose veins (dilated pre-existing veins) are acquired lesions caused by venous hypertension leading to proliferation of blood vessels in the skin and subcutaneous tissues due to the release of endothelial growth factors causing vascular neogenesis. More than 60% of the patients with spider veins of the legs have significant symptoms incl...
